It's been a while! I would like to post about a lot of the deals I have gotten recently, but I can't seem to find the correct SD card with my pictures. At work maybe? Anyway... lets start with the most important purchase, our freezer!!!
Isn't it adorable? Its like 5 cubic feet, and of course we got it on sale. This is actually the second freezer we have purchased, the first had to go back to its homeland of Walmart. We had been thinking about buying one so we can get all of the great frozen goods deals and we decided on one from Walmart. As we were getting ready to load it up and take it home we saw this ripped up piece of paper that said something about a recall. We decided to wait and look into it more. Long story short we went back to the store and asked them to open the box so we could see the serial number to see if this particular freezer had been recalled, they said that they could scan it and if it had been recalled it would show up. I thought, "what a great idea"! They said it was fine, we bought it, dragged it home and all the way inside, oh, what's that? Serial number that matched the recall? You bet! And not just any recall- a fire hazard recall that happened 6 months ago! How do you sell me a product that is likely to catch on fire?!?! After I specifically ask you if it is included in the recall?!?!? I have written an email to Walmart expalining my outrage in a very calm reasonable manner, but have yet to hear back from them...shocking.
But back to our new awesome freezer. We ordered this one from Sear's, they shipped it to our local store in 4 business days, and we paid about $165 for it, $10 cheaper than my potential fireball from Walmart (perhaps the extra cost is because you could use it as both a freezer and a grill!). As you can see right now we are mainly using it for meat and now we have more than enough room to buy up all kinds of good deals.
Speaking of good deals, lets talk about the crazy good deal we got on these steaks. See the prices? About $16 each, what do you think we paid? $5 each!!! These are from Earthfare, and for the first time we actually used the coupon at their store instead of Publix. This is sold by the cut, and so I wasn't really sure how Publix was going to deal with that. I am so glad that we went and used the coupon at Earthfare. This is supposed to be for a bone in ribeye, however, they had run out of that by the time we got there and they were substituting boneless, hooray! We were each able to use a coupon and we got these for $10.80 with tax, amazing!
We also made a trip to the Farmer's Market today. I love tomatoes like nobody's business and today they had the best looking tomatoes ever! For your comparison on the right is a tomato we bought at Kroger for $1.99/lb, on the left is one of the 5 tomatoes I got at the market for $4 (that's total not per lb!) and yes all of the tomatoes are that big and yummy looking:)
Finally, here is our most recent Publix shopping trip. Those potatoes are actually for my mom. They were bogo $1.89 and I had $1/2 coupons, so that made them about 45 cents a box. The chex mix is actually a pretty big and with bogo sale and coupons they were about 90 cents each. We found a couple of cheaper packs of meat. Two are steak cut for fajitas, we made a pack last week and it was pretty good. The other is a pack of thin sliced pork chops, all three packs were about $2.50. We got a couple of tomatoes and also some chicken strips for salad that we made for dinner. We used a $5/$20 Earthfare coupon and we got everything for about $20!
